FOREVER ACCURATE

4th Dec 2016

A gun draw and an equally good ride from Neil Callan proved the difference as Price Bloodstock six-year-old Forever Accurate took himself back into the winner’s photo at Sha Tin on Sunday.

With the rail out in the C+3 position, Forever Accurate got a good draw in barrier one on the right day after having wider draws at his previous four starts. The Dennis Yip-trained gelding had battled as best he could with those bad gates and still managed two seconds, so he was in the right kind of form for his first hook up with Callan.

“I’d not ridden him before but I did think he was going well enough to win one if he had a bit more luck,” Callan said. “He’s no star but he tries hard and I was delighted when he came up with a good gate, because he probably needs that.”

But Callan did more than rely on the gate to do all the work, using that starting point to drive up and lead when he could have taken a box seat trip without any sweat and it was the key move as he held on by a head.

“Looking at his races, Forever Accurate looks quite one-paced so I was worried about any of the other favourites getting across me and then having to get out and outsprint them from behind,” Callan said. “There wasn’t any mad speed on so I kept poking up to hold the rail and with the rail out that was the winning move. “

Forever Accurate’s third win over the Sha Tin 1,200m took his stakes to almost $2.4 million.
