EROICO

18th January 2017

Prize Bloodstock is rightly proud of the record that Eroico has assembled over several seasons in Hong Kong and the six-year-old kept up his good form to register a first Class One victory on Wednesday night at Sha Tin’s all weather track.

The 1,200m dirt sprint is one of only one or two Class Ones run all year for the dirt horses and Price Bloodstock came away with a great result, as Fabulous One (fourth) and Happy Surveys (fifth) also finished within half a length at the post but Eroico and Karis Teetan did enough to post the narrow victory.

“My horse didn’t stop, he just kept grinding right through the line,” Teetan said. “John Size had him spot-on for this race and he had a nice weight on his back. He travelled strongly under me and when I turned for home and sent him, he didn’t change gear quickly, he just kept grinding, grinding right to the line. Last time he won over 1650m and won a good race is a slow pace. Today was different, they went fast, they burned petrol and he was able to finish over them.”

Eroico has been a model of consistency, winning six times in his 30 starts and the win on Wednesday night pushed his stake earnings past $8.5 million.

“He rarely disappoints this horse. He has only run twice on the dirt in Class One – tonight’s win and he finished second to Gun Pit the other time, so he’s pretty good on this surface. He’ll be up to a rating around 100 now so life could be tougher but there’s no doubting his enthusiasm to compete,” said Size.
