RELENTLESS ME

30 April 2017

Trainer Chris So is making a winning habit out of producing Price Bloodstock horses ready for their debut in Hong Kong and it was Relentless Me who joined the list on Sunday at Sha Tin.

So has won multiple races in the past 2 seasons with Price Bloodstock debutants and it was the recent victory by another one of the team, Sight Leader, that had champion jockey Joao Moreira full of confidence about Relentless Me.

“You know, I had been working this horse without knowing his name and he was working with Sight Leader and I believed he was the better one of the two,” Moreira said. “The first time I knew the identity of this horse was when Chris called me about the entries and booked me for the ride. Then I realised and I was quite excited.”

Moreira had won Sight Leader’s debut run when he confessed later he didn’t expect that horse to win at the first time of asking so the situation was reversed this time.

“The one I didn’t think could win had won first-up and now I was on the better one – yes I was very confident and he didn’t let me down. I think he is a nice horse even if very green right now,” Moreira said.

Parked just behind a good speed, Relentless Me came into the race at the right time to gain the front inside the final 100m but Moreira said he almost threw it away after hitting the front.

“He was quite green all through the race, shying away from horses and doing a lot wrong,” he explained. “But when he got to the lead, he saw the winning post and he shied away from that too and lost his concentration. I had to keep at him or he was going to give the race away. That indicates his inexperience but also means there is a lot of improvement to come when he starts to learn his job.”
