FAIRY TWINS

6th December 2017

Price Bloodstock-sourced Fairy Twins was back in the winner’ circle on IJC night at Happy Valley, with a brave performance and a ringing endorsement of the Jockey Club veterinary department’s successes in recent times with throat operations.

Trainer Chris So joined other winning trainers lately who have trumpeted these successes and Fairy Twins should be even better next time for his narrow victory that took his record to 3 wins from 11 starts, all over 1,200m, and his prizemoney past $2.5 million.

Under a smart, energy-conserving ride from Joao Moreira, Fairy Twins sat off the pace and relaxed well before launching a sharp sprint in the straight that looked like carrying him to a comfortable win.

But Fairy Twins felt the pinch late and the race-fit runner-up ran his margin to a close result.

“Fairy Twins has missed a lot of 2017 after having a tie-back operation in January but the technology is getting better all the time with the throat surgeries and we have been seeing a lot of these horses winning when they come back after them,” So said. “After he had his second run back from that break, in October – and it was a good run – we had another setback with a foot injury. So, the horse had not run for two months and still managed to win the race tonight and I think he should be fitter next time.”
