IVICTORY

Price Bloodstock already has supplied one outstanding sprint prospect in the John Size stable in Hot King Prawn but another one, the year-older Ivictory, has also transformed into the next big short course thing after smashing the course record at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.

Ivictory won three of his four starts as a three-year-old and looked promising but he seems to have gone to a whole new level now and broke a decades-old record when he took his record this season to 3 out of 3 midweek without ever looking like he was out of second gear.

That has taken his career record to 7 starts for 6 wins, more than $4 million in stakemoney and the big time now awaits.

“There isn’t much I can add – he does all the talking at the moment,” Size told the press after the romp by almost three lengths.

Joao Moreira went straight to the lead on the odds-on favourite and that was that, the son of Mossman never really being threatened.

Ivictory finished last season late in the piece, in July, but wasn’;t seen again until February after an injury to his left front leg was reported in September.

“It isn’t surprising that he has shown improvement this season as he is more mature and stronger being a four-year-old now,” Size said. “But the extra time off does not seem to have hurt him. When you have a young horse with a nice record and some promise, there is usually some pressure to run them but we didn’t have any choice because he got hurt. So he had quite a long break and seems to have really got some benefit from that.”

After the soft win on a rating of 95 on Wednesday, Size admitted there would probably be a big enough penalty from the handicapper to start limiting Ivictory’s opportunities but he was not prepared to commit to entering Group company with the sprinter next time.

“I don’t know what rating he’ll have now but where he goes now will obviously depend on that and on the program,” he said.
