VOLITATION

23rd Oct 2016

Understated four-year-old Volitation landed his second win at Sha Tin on Sunday and the gelding made another contribution on behalf of Price Bloodstock to the record of Hong Kong’s most successful owner.

Hui Sai-fun won a Hong Kong Derby as far back as 1959 and has won international races and numerous Group Ones along the way and Volitation became Mr Hui’s 95th winner as a Hong Kong owner as he closes in on the century.

Volitation showed the benefit of a run back from the summer break and jckey Nash Rawiller was able to take advantage of his tactical ability and a slow lead tempo and John Size-trained Volitation just sprinted too quickly for his rivals over the last 400m.

“I didn’t want to lead and I was happy when the apprentice rider crossed me and gave me something to follow and that horse kicked on quite well in the straight with his light weight and stayed with my horse until the 200m, which also helped as Volitation wasn’t left out on his own too early,” Rawiller said. “He’s doing a good job and his wins aren’t finished yet.”
