WINNER’S WAY

Price Bloodstock find Winner’s Way might become a sly outside hope for the four-year-old Group One race series in Hong Kong after taking his record to two wins from three starts on international day.

Trainer Tony Cruz was very positive about the chestnut after he took his second victory over the Sha Tin 1,400m by a nose after dueling with the runner-up for the full length of the Sha Tin straight.

“He’s really going somewhere this horse,” said Cruz. “If you watch him, he was out in the open for a long time and he looks lost for most of the last 400m, but he was still able to win.”

Jockey Matthew Chadwick got Winner’s Way out of the gates faster than his first two starts and had him in the box seat to the turn before pushing between horses straightening up to find the front almost 400m from the finish line. He was momentarily headed by a smart horse in Beat the Clock but fought back to beat him conceding him 15 pounds in the weights.

With a rating increase to 84, Winner’s Way still has a little work to do to make the fields for races like the Classic Mile but Cruz is confident he is up to the task.

“One thing I’m sure about is Winner’s Way will appreciate more distance than he has had in his three runs to date so to win two of them is a good effort. He’s just getting going,” said Cruz.
