JUNEAU PARK

14th March 2020

It is all ahead of Price Bloodstock product Juneau Park after he managed to break the ice with a maiden win at Sha Tin on Saturday.

Juneau Park was having his fourth start in a race and had run good races in the first three without quite landing a victory, so punters sent him out a hot favourite.

He got the job done but it was a tough win in a very tight finish when Joao Moreira threw the John Size-trained four-year-old over the line to score by a nose.

“He had been unlucky with the draws and still running well before now, so I expected him to go well from a much better barrier this time,” Moreira said. “It was a close finish but he was very determined.”

The distance was 1400m but Moreira sees a future over further for the son of Ocean Park, which has been typical for the sire.

“Obviously, it’s John’s call when he is ready to go to longer, but I think we will see the best of this horse once he goes to 1600m and beyond and maybe it won’t be too long before he does that,” Moreira said. “Mentally and physically, he still has improvement to come so it must be a good sign that he can win when he is not yet at his very best.”
