SCORES OF FUN & ARMOR STAR

20th September 2020

Price Bloodstock galloper Scores Of Fun would never be described as skinny but he definitely needed to hold his breath and squeak through a narrow gap at Sha Tin on Sunday before keeping his unbeaten record intact.

The four-year-old was good enough to win on debut last May then trainer John Size gave him some time to develop before bringing him back to the races again but his win as favourite wasn’t a simple matter.

After a nice run under Joao Moreira to the home turn, Scores Of Fun was travelling well but with a lot of horses in front of him down the straight.

“He showed he’s not just talent but very brave today,” said Moreira. “I had to go for two gaps and the only one that came through was the second one. It wasn’t a big gap but I was hopeful he would get through and he proved that he has got a lot of heart when he took the run and got the job done. It’s a great training achievement, to win like that again 4 months, but no doubt that he needed the time off that John gave him and it paid off today.”

Size was full of praise for the son of Reward For Effort, raced by the Fun Loving Syndicate which has enjoyed success with both the trainer and Price Bloodsock over two decades.

“Everyone knew he had the ability to win, being the favourite in the betting told you that, but, for an inexperienced horse, he showed a lot of courage and race sense to be held up like that and then take a small opening and go and win,” Size said. “Not many win their first two starts, he’s overcome some traffic to do it so it’s all ahead of him and you couldn’t ask him to do anything more at this stage.”
