COURIER WONDER

Price Bloodstock rising star Courier Wonder brought home two positives after keeping his unbeaten record intact with another authoritative victory at Sha Tin on Sunday.

The win to take him to three from three was the first and the second was not winning by a big margin this time so he can stay ahead of the handicapper.

The three-year-old was hoisted 28 points in the ratings for his first two wins and very few up and coming talents are able to withstand that sort of rapid advancement to keep winning.

After doing some work in the middle stages carrying top weight this time, though, the John Size-trained gelding only had half a length to spare in his third victory over the Sha Tin 1200m and that should keep the handicapper more relaxed than the wide margins previously.

“It was a bit more difficult because of the 133 pounds on his back today and he had the wide gate,” explained champion jockey Joao Moreira. “So, he had to use himself to come across and he did still win with something left in hand. I did not use the whip on him, I just showed it to him and he finished the job.”

While Size has produced a number of good young talents this season, Moreira makes no secret of the fact that Courier Wonder is the one that excites him most.

“For sure, this season, yes. This time he won by a shorter margin and that was just because of the weight. It was still quite convincing to me and I still have a lot of faith in him that he’s going to go very high,” Moreira said. “It’s been a while since I’ve been on top of a nice horse like him. If he keeps on tracking and keeps on learning as he should, he’s going to go far – I can tell you that.”
